Invitations & accomodation

With 175 days to go, the majority of our invitations have been sent. I say the majority as there are still some evening invites for friends etc to go out over the next few coming weeks, but it was important for us to let family and people know early, particularly ones who have to travel.

We've had lots of nice comments about our invites, and even other bride-to-be's in work have used the same place (www.123print.co.uk) to order their wedding stationery! I do love them as they are quite classic and they have a touch of purple in them! They were incredibly reasonable in terms of price as well which helped! 123print don't just do wedding invites, they do pretty much everything! So if you're in need of some excellent quality stationery that's easy on the purse strings, then do take a look! Some of their designs are brilliant. The only downside is thast you have to be quite creative (me) and computer savvy (Sean) to adapt the invites the way you want them! It can be quite time consuming, but we felt that the result was well worth it!

Anyway, now that the invites have gone out the RSVP's are dribbling in, slowly but surely! We have been really touched by the sentiments that have gone into some of them! We've had some cross stitched ones and ones with some beautiful messages in. So thank you all.

Since sending out the invites, people have been asking more about accomodation. We have put links on this blog (right hand side) to places to stay but I will explain a bit more. Basically, we live in Thrapston which is about 15 minutes or 6 miles away from Barnwell Village Hall (where the reception is). In thrapston there are a choice of three hotels to choose from:

1. The travelodge - Located at the top of the town just off junction 13 on A14. It is apparently going cheap at the moment, something like £25 a night so could be worth getting in quick!

2. The Bridge Hotel - A more up market hotel with various prices - most expensive double room is £105 but cheapest is £65. You can get mixture of B&B and dinner there too. Take a look at their website.

3. The Woolpack hotel - Chalets are at the back of the pub and prices are £49.95 per chalet per night. They are self-contained and ensuite.

4. The Poplars B&B - Unfortunately both rooms are booked and taken for the wedding weekend as my parents are using it!

If you travel from Thrapston you will either have to drive or taxi it. According to taxifare.co.uk a taxi will be £8.95 from Thrapston to Barnwell but I will ring up nearer the time to get more accurate quotes. I shouldn't have thought it'd be anymore than £12 though.

Alternative accomodation nearer to the village hall consist of:
1. The Talbot hotel - Based in Oundle, 5 minute drive from Barnwell. unsure of prices as website says it won't be publishing them until spring 2012. Helpful much?

2. The Ilford lodge hotel - Is based in a farm on the main road which Barnwell is situated on, although the bitch is it's on the opposite side of the road! Not entirely sure how you'd cross it so you may have to drive. Not many rooms but reasonably priced.

3. The Barnwell B&B - This is the only accomodation source which is in the actual village where the reception is taking place, although there will be about 10/15 minute walk. There is no website link as of yet as it's still in the process of being built! Hopefully brochures and a website will be up in Decemeber, however I know that there will be 9 twin/double rooms and 1 single room. It will be £40 per person per night but a full breakfast is included and the rooms are all ensuite with tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms. The bride and groom will be staying here with some members of the bridal party, so not sure of how many rooms will be availible but if you would like any more information about this place, then email me or fbook and I can have a chat.

So there you go, a bit more information,so get RSVP's in and let me know if you need anymore information!

Lots of love,
The future Mrs Bass xx

Wedding frustrations...

Well with just over 8 months to go, it's all going well. In saying that, there's not much news since last time! The plan of doing lots over the summer went out the window as we had lots of things on.

A good thing was that I celebrated my last birthday as a single woman by having a BBQ with both sets of parents who got on really well. Everyone had a fantastic time and it was a lovely way to have everyone meet and get to know each other before the big day. Might even do it again before the wedding!

My wedding ring has arrived and it is beautiful! I love it! But the downside is I want to wear it now! Sean is still thinking about his...men they take ages with these kind of things! But that's it really. We are still really keen for people to make requests for the DJ so please please please get on and choose some songs for us!

As excited as I am about the whole day and the whole being married bit, I just wish it was all here and done with! Isn't that awful?! I just get tired sometimes of worrying about centrepieces and the jewllery and shoes to go with my dress, and thinking about what food we want and how many people are going! It all gets quite stressful and at times slightly boring! The hard thing is now, that I'm back at school I don't know where I'm going to find times to sort all of these things out.

Another thing that I've been feeling is wedding pressure. That pressure to have the big, fancy, and frankly expensive wedding. I'm trying hard to not give in and Sean is very good at keeping me grounded, but I read these wedding magazines (which I do love) but I end up thinking: Should we have a photobooth? Should we hire a clown for the children? Do we need chair covers? Where do I get an evening outfit from? Should I hire a make-up artist? All of these things I had never thought of, nor necessarily want, but sometimes after reading my monthly copy of Wedding Ideas makes me think of these things. Let's face it, if I did any of these things, our budget would be shot and the whole registry office and village hall cheap affordable wedding goes out of the window., and I might as well have wacked 10 grand on a credit card and got married in a castle.

In my heart of hearts I know that it doesn't matter if we have chair covers or not, or if I get changed in the evening, or what necklace I wear, what will matter is the actual promise we are making to each other. It's what I've dreamt of for so long, so the materialistic things don't matter. We are celebrating with 120 of our freinds and family and as Sean keeps saying, it will be brilliant. I just need to stop being so bloody insecure about everything! Lol. And I need to keep feeling excited and amazed that I'm becoming Mrs Bass, because that's what it's all about really.

DJ music requests please!

Hi all

Hope you are all well and that you're enjoying the blog. As you can see we have got lots of links on the right hand side to places we have used for things. 123print was the place we ordered our Save The Date cards and invitations and abakhan was the place I bought my fabric for my dress. All the other links should be self explanatory.

However there is one which is really important which is the NRG roadshow. This is our DJ site where you can make requests as to what songs you would like played at our wedding. We would love for you to all contribute and nominate tunes! To request a song, click on the list and go to guest log in. You have to enter the date of the wedding which is the 28th April 2012 and put in the following password: vukege (all in lowercase!). You should then be able to select a song or artist and you can dedicate songs and put a message with it I think. :) All very exciting. Can't wait to see some of your choices!

Lots of love

Hotels and Accommodation

Hello everyone,

I’ve added a “Hotels and Accommodation” section to the menu on the right, here I have listed a few places you might like to rest your head if you need to stay the over the night after our wedding.

Each link will take you to the hotel’s website which will tell you all you need to know; I’ve also included on the link how far away from the reception venue the hotel is.

Date and other news!

Hello everyone,

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Our wedding will take place on Saturday 28th April 2012!

I am so excited about typing that, although most people know already! I've become a bit bridezilla and have booked and sorted the big things already! Ceremony & reception venues are booked, caterer and bar booked, florists booked, car booked (and paid for!) and DJ deposit has been paid. In exciting dress news, the material and dress pattern has been chosen and headpiece has been bought. I can't wait to see it, although my Auntie isn't making it for a while so I still have time to lose so more weight. So really I think we have done really well in the space of what....10 weeks?! OMG, it seems so much longer since the engagement!

I am really pleased with how the plans are progressing and I'm hoping to get more stuff organised in the summer. One big thing that is happening is that the two families are going to get together for the first time at my birthday BBQ in August. I'm really looking forward to that as it means that I won't be stressed on the wedding day of them not having to meet for the first time!

I have accepted that the rest of this year and the beginning of next year is going to be a bit mental in terms of fitting everything in. You know what with wedding plans, MA dissertation, school work and drama group commitments, I may well have grey hair on the day! I realise I may have to take a step back from a few things in order not to burn out! But it's all good fun, and it just means that the wedding and the honeymoon will come around quicker!

Anyway, I hope you are all well and are enjoying the blog. I promise to add some more useful information on here such as links to the companies we are using and link to the DJ song chooser....(YES, you really can choose some music for our wedding!).

Will speak to you all soon, and remember, only 303 days to go!

ARRRGGGH!

Lots of love

Engagement Drinks!

Invites have now gone out for our engagement drinks, nothing big just few drinks down one of our local pubs, although we have hired a room so we won't be bothered by any of the normal pub riff-raff.

All joking aside it should be a very enjoyable evening. Hope to see you there!

Please see our "Thanks to..."

If you look to your right you will see our "Thank to..." section, here we will be adding the websites for any services we use, places we hire, pubs we organize drinks in and the like.

The hope is that having all these website in one location will make to easier for everyone to find all the information we can't add to our blog, you can't blog the entire world!

Jess' first post!

Hi all.

When Sean first suggested this website as a way of keeping people involved in our wedding plans, I was quite apprehensive. I feared it was a bit self indulgent and arrogant in way, I didn't want it to seem like we were bragging about our wedding! After all there are other important things going in people's lives and our 'big day' is after all going to be a low key affair.

However, the fact remains that we have family and friends on the Wirral, in Manchester and in the Midlands and this is a fantastic way of incorporating everyone we know and love in the preparation for our wedding and making sure everyone gets the important information quickly and easily. In this modern world, where the internet is an everyday necessity, it seems like the perfect way of getting everyone on board and excited about our upcoming nuptials.

The information that will be provided on this site is also a massive advantage to creating it. There are inevitably going to be people who travel to us on the day and so they will need to look for important things like hotels and directions. Instead of putting all of this in one HUGE invitation, (I feared it was going to be a book, the way we were thinking!) it can all be included on this site and it is just the website which needs to be on the invites. (And yes, think of the trees and cost!)

As I have said , the wedding is going to be low key affair, particualrly in terms of costs. We are attempting to have a small budget for the actual day as we feel that the most important thing is that we are married and that it is a nice day, and we honestly believe that you don't need to spend tens of thousands of pounds to achieve this. It also seems more sensible to use our money for a fantastic once in a lifetime honeymoon, or put it towards a deposit on our first home. It struck me that for anyone who wants to get married in the future that this blog might give people a few tips on how to do it on a budget. So advantage for blog number 3.

Finally, the blog will be a fantatstic way of me discussing bridal issues without becoming bridezilla! I've only been engaged for two weeks and the wedding, despite the desire for it to be low key, is already taking over all of my thoughts, time, feelings and brain power! The blog will be a perfect way for me vent all of my thoughts and feelings and plans for the wedding and also get your opinion on things to! Sean is particualry grateful for this aspect of the blog, as he might get less earache now!

I hope this explains it quite well, and I hope you all read, contribute and join me on my journey from becoming Miss Smith to Mrs Bass , and more than anything I hope that you all enjoy it!

Coming soon : Date of wedding, location of ceremony and reception venue.

Lots of love

Newly engaged lady, Jess xxxx
